We provide a bespoke and dedicated day service for young people with a range of disabilities. These day sessions are so important as an opportunity to build learning, friendships and fun into the days of the young people we support. We provide a vast range of opportunities and options. From days at the farm, to volunteering opportunities, to dance classes, music therapy, arts and crafts, drawing, puzzles, relaxing and chatting, trips along the river and so much more. We make the most of the local community - going to the gym and local attractions, enjoying swimming, boccia and experiencing all that the beautiful area has to offer.

We get to know each young person so that we are able to give them a great deal of choice and control over the activities that they engage in. We are also careful to ensure that timetabling allows young people to be supported by a staff team with whom they have a strong connection and enables them to share their days with other young people with whom they have a strong rapport or friendship.

Why does it matter?

Too often young people with disabilities feel excluded from social activities. The places their peers go can feel overwhelming or inaccessible without additional support and the unique challenges that young people with learning disabilities face can make forming friendships particularly challenging. Days at the Chiltern Centre provide opportunities to do these activities in a fully supported, caring and safe environment. In addition it provides the opportunity to meet other young people who have experienced the same challenges so that they can build strong friendships with their peers.

"It gives him the opportunity to be with other young people who are the same as him. I think his confidence has grown, he's more adult. To be honest with you, he's almost 19, he doesn't want to be sat at home with aged parents, he wants to be doing something else and going somewhere else, and that's what the Chiltern Centre gives him.”
